seiko nh35 vs nh38

In regards to the choice of a NH 35 or NH 38 movement, when I decide which option(for example on a dive watch kit that shows no date window) does the dial change accordingly (date window vs no date window) does the dial change accordingly?

My understanding is that the NH 35 as a date complication feature while the NH 38 does not.

If no change in dial occurs, is there some other reason you would choose the NH 35?

Thank you

Hi! Are you just beginning to build or already have a build and trying to modify? You are correct. NH35 has date complications and depending on the NH35 movement that you have, the date window can be either at the 3 o’clock, at the 6 o’clock, or between 4 and 5 o’clock. A lot of people use NH35 even though the dial has no date window but I think the main reason is that NH35 is cheaper than NH38.

NH38 is usually used for dials that has the ‘open-heart’ design. There is no date complications but with the correct dial, you can see a part of mechanism of the movement. Even without the date complication, NH38 is more expensive than NH35.

So, as the standard answer to your question, it depends on what you want for your mod.

Thanks Palos. I am just getting started so this is all new to me.
I have ordered two kits, a skeleton dress watch and a more classic dress watch from DIY. Still eagerly awaiting delivery…
Thanks again.
